The town was settled around the 1930s\, but its distinct character and history are most strongly tied to May Carson\, who bought the cafe in 1982 and cultivated it into a welcoming oasis\, becoming the heart of the town until her death in 2018. After Carson’s passing and a period of renovations under her grandson\, the town was purchased by Jon Jasniak in 2023 and is being developed into a “desert oasis” with food\, music\, and lodging.    \nCornudas\, Texas\, is a small community named after the “horned” mountains to the north\, which was historically a service stop for travelers and connected to the Butterfield Overland Mail route via the now-ruined Cornudas Station. Founded in the late 1930s by Willie Tinnin\, it served as a fuel and food stop with a cafe\, gas station\, and store for nearby ranches and a gas pumping station. The name “Cornudas” derives from the Spanish word for “horned\,” likely referring to the shape of the mountains.    \n
